Topic 1: “ACCOUNTANCY: The Flexible Path. The Profession That Takes You Where You Want To Go”

    The advantages of accountancy as a profession to take. Accountancy can be national or international. It just all depends on the type of certificate that we have. Accountancy as a profession could offer flexible career options, from the government sector, private business entities, public practice, and academe, these are the four fields of accounting practice. In order to decide what career path are we going to do, we have to honestly assess our personals goals and willingness to put considerable time and effort to become an accountant and CPA.

An accounting degree gives you the ability to see the entire financial picture, while also being very analytical and detail-oriented.”





    We as an accountant, have an option to work in any institution we want. It is also better to have specialization in certain sectors to gain more experience and to be mature in our careers. One advantage of having an accounting major is it is one most recession-proof careers so even if the economy takes a downturn, accounting skills will still be in demand. We can use our accountancy background as a bridge to other career types.

    The accounting profession tends to be structured and intellectually challenging. People that are great in numbers and logic are likely to have these types of work environments.

    We should not just be contented earning a degree, but we should continue the never-ending learning. In conclusion, Mr. Gappi said that “pursuing an accountancy career path and taking the CPA exam is well worth the time and effort as this would be the right stepping-stone for your future and help you achieve your dream accountancy career.




Topic 2: “A Day in the Life of an Accountant”
Patrick John Burdan, CPA
OLFU CBA ALUMNUS – BATCH 2018




    Mr. Burdan shared his journey from becoming a student assistant until he became a Certified Public Accountant. Being accountants we need to have analytical skills, facing different problems, have mathematical skills and be critical thinkers. Accountants also do detailed-oriented work, every work must be precise, accounted properly, and it should be objective-driven. Communication is key for a successful business, An accountant should communicate with other professionals, and must be an active listener, concise and assertive. Listening skills, empathy, and patience must possess by every accountant when communicating with other teams and departments. While performing technical financial work, accountants must be efficient, their work must be timely and figures and reports must be accurate. And use accounting technologyBeyond the basic daily task applied to accounting professionals likely to have specialized that spend much of the time using accounting technology, like preparing the financial statements, analyzing operational cost, budgeting, tax preparation, auditing financial statements, implementing and/or maintaining accounting systems, managing payroll, and creating and improvement of accounting processes. In conclusion, Mr. Burdan said that accounting technology really gives us an edge in entering the corporate world. And as an accountant, we must be very accurate to everything we do, because we talk about money and financials, so everything is very important. 






Topic 3: “Accounting Skills You Need to Succeed on the Job”

    Mrs. Dillena discussed the Seven Steps of Accounting Skills which are the General business knowledge, Up-to-date technology expertise, communication skills, adaptability and flexibility, creativity and a willingness to help others, customer service orientation, and specialized experience. She emphasized these steps of accounting skills that everyone must possess to become a good accountant. As early as now, we should prepare ourselves before entering a corporate world. A successful accountant acquires all the necessary skills and abilities. These skills are not just to become a good accountant but also to become a better person. We have to choose in which specialized experience we want to go. And by these skills, we will be successful in our chosen careers.
